"UN calls for severing commercial and financial ties with Israel"

Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, has called on the international community to sever all commercial and financial ties with Israel.

This includes halting international aid to Israel and imposing a complete arms embargo on the country.

She made this call yesterday, Thursday, while speaking at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.

She described Israel’s economic system as an “economy of genocide.”

Albanese titled her presented report:

📘 “From Economy of Occupation to Economy of Genocide.”

The report details how large corporate entities sustain Israel’s illegal occupation and settlement.

These entities include:

➤ Arms manufacturing companies,

➤ Surveillance technology providers,

➤ Heavy machinery manufacturers, and

➤ Banks and financial institutions.

According to her, these corporations function as a kind of corporate machinery—

actively contributing to the displacement, killing, and illegal settlement against Palestinians.

Albanese further stated that—

Since the start of Israeli military attacks, share prices on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange have increased by nearly 200%.

More than 220 billion dollars have been added to the market.

Meanwhile, Gaza has turned into ruins.

The UN report states that

Israel’s “military-industrial sector” is the main driving force of the country’s economy.

Around 85,000 tons of explosives have been dropped on Gaza, which is six times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.

Albanese said,

“One nation is prospering, while another is being wiped out. For some, even genocide has become profitable.”

The United Nations has called on the international community—

➤ To hold accountable the companies involved in this violence,

➤ And to take legal action against those violating international law.
